Accessibility
How we make this site usable for everyone, what we know still falls short, and how to tell us about a problem.
Statement prepared October 21, 2026 · Last updated October 21, 2026
Our goal
We want everyone to be able to see our work, read about our services and reach our office, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We aim for this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
What the site does
- Keyboard use. Every link, button and form field can be reached with the keyboard. A “Skip to Content” link comes first on every page, the menu closes with the Esc key, and the project photo galleries move with the arrow keys.
- Visible focus. A clear outline shows which link, button or field you’re on.
- Photo descriptions. Project photos have text descriptions, including whether a photo shows the work before, during or after. Decorative images, and photos that only repeat the link beside them, are hidden from screen readers.
- Colour contrast. Text, links and buttons meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
- Zoom and small screens. Pinch zoom is never blocked, and you can zoom the page to 200% or more. Pages reflow to a single column on narrow screens without sideways scrolling.
- Screen readers. Pages use headings, landmarks and labelled form fields. Form errors are read out, and the menu and photo galleries tell screen readers whether they’re open and which photo is showing.
- Reduced motion. When your device asks for reduced motion, smooth scrolling and hover effects are turned off. Nothing on the site moves on its own.
- Without JavaScript. The pages, the menu, the photo galleries and the bid form still work with JavaScript turned off.
Known limits
- Some older project photos come from our previous website and are small (some about 540 pixels across), so they show limited detail when opened full size. A few older jobs have no recorded location, so their descriptions say only what the photo shows.
- Opening a project photo full size shows the image on its own; its description stays on the gallery page.
- Text sizes are fixed in the page styles, so changing only your browser’s default text size has little effect. Browser zoom (Ctrl or Cmd and +) enlarges everything.
- We check the site with automated tests, the keyboard and the browser engines behind Chrome and Safari at phone, tablet and desktop sizes. We haven’t yet tested every page with each screen reader.
